Hawick Albion Website - Under 15 Team
Even though I’ve spent almost half my life in the borders (playing rugby and working – in that order!) I am still only classed as a visitor having spent the first half in and around Edinburgh.
I grew up in Roslin (just outside Edinburgh). Went to school at Daniel Stewart’s and Melville College (Stew/Mel). Started my rugby career at full back in P5 and slowly moved towards the pack as others got quicker and I got taller (and slower!). Finished school as 1st XV captain and moved onto Vet College, still in Edinburgh and played for Stew/Mel FP. Managed a few games for Edinburgh, Scotland U21 and Scottish Students. After finishing university I got my first job in St Boswells and within a year was playing rugby for Melrose. This proved a very sensible move as Melrose won 3 National League and 4 Border League titles in the 5 years I was there. I called it a day and finished playing while I still had some knee cartilage left and my good looks. Moved to Hawick about the same time.
I started coaching while Callum and Finlay were at Jed Minis and found I really enjoyed it (not so sure about my kids though!). It gives me a real buzz to see kids enjoy playing rugby.
I first played rugby with Trinity Primary School and captained the side in P7 (we never won a game). Then it was onto the Hawick High School which i played in a highly competative side for 4yrs. I also played for Scotland South under 15's. It was the PSA next to suffer me for 3 years also captaining them in my last season. Scotland South Under 18's was probably the best it got for myself. My final port of call was the Redskins (YM). Which i have some great memories, winning the Border League one of the best. Due to other commitment ie Horse racing and injury I have been away from rugby for 15yrs but I hope I can help the boys enjoy rugby as much as I did at their age.
