"NOT A GRAND DAY OUT" Gala v Hawick Albion 14/2/10

So it was of to Neatherdale on Sunday to play our Border rivals , not a good start to go a converted score down after 1 minute but Gala had a big lad and he run the show and scored 8 of their 10 try,s and converted 6 of them think a herd someone at Gala say his mum washes the kit and makes the pies and his dad drivers the bus , we had some good phases of play in the first half but ended the half 20 points to nil down . The second half was much better for the Albion with a try from Stuart Maxwell and two from Ryan Ryan Elliot made the final score Gala-37 Hawick Albion-10.
"NOTE FROM THE TOUCH LINE" well boys we go over it every training session LEGS , LEGS , LEGS, LEGS LEGS , LEGS ,LEGS and RUCK , RUCK , RUCK , RUCK ,RUCK , RUCK ,RUCK , RUCK so now a have that off my chest see you all at Training

Albion v Stirling 7/2/10

The long drive north
The Albion S-2 made the trip north to Stirling on Sunday for the first game of 2010 and the first game in 9 long weeks. Thanks to the under 15 players that made the trip Andrew,Cammy and Findlay so we could field a team of 15 players. In the shadow of the Wallace monument the Albion set about the task against the side that had taken them apart down at Wilton lodge park back in November with a very good start that kept the hosts pinned back in their own half Ryan Elliot made a great run to go over for the first try on 20 minutes with the conversion missed Stirling took the lead straight from the kick off with a converted try not to be out done the Albion hit back with an unconverted try from Findlay Simpson to end the first half Stirling-8 Albion-6
The hosts went further ahead 6 minutes into the second half the a converted try this would be the last score of the game with still 19 minutes left but both sides played some great Rugby that cancelled out each other the Albion players put in a great shift and should be very proud of the effort and team spirt they showed in this game final score Stirling-12 Albion-6

Albion S2 29/11/09

It was nice morning when the Albion left the "grey auld toon" but the rain had started before they had passed through Ashkirk and it was pouring down when we arrived at Portobello Rugby club so the warm up was delayed until the rain had slowed down a bit.
With 20 players available this week 4 of them agreed to pull on a Porty jersey as they could only field 11 players , playing against a strong wind the Albion started well only to lose Stuart Maxwell after he sustained a head knock after 2 minutes and had to leave the field and not able to return to take any further part in the day. The Albion took the lead on 10 minutes with a try from Jordan Hyslop and his conversion was blown back in the wind , Portobello replied on 11 minutes with a converted try to take the lead that would only last for 1 minute as Hizzy went over for his second on 12 minutes. Ryan Elliot scored a hatrick of try,s on 15, 20 and 21 minutes, Chez Breiter ended the scoring for the Albion on 26 minutes to give a final score. Portobello-4 Hawick Albion-19
Next up the Albion city rivals Heriots looking for revenge from two weeks ago when the Albion had beat them 2 try,s to 1 .The Albion kicked off into a strong wind and the early exchanges were keenly contested, Ryan Elliott broke free from inside his own 22 to run almost the full length of the pitch to score under the posts the extras made by Dalton Redpath. But the lead was short lived as Heriots scored on 12 minutes then went further ahead on 14 minutes .It looked like Ryan Elliot would level the scores as he took of on another great run only to have been judged to have had a foot in touch, however this was not to be the day for another Albion double victory as Heriots went further ahead on 20 minutes to give a final score. Heriots-12 Hawick Albion-4

Albion S-2 15/11/09

"A GRAND DAY OUT"

A pitch inspection had to take place early on Sunday morning after the rain the "grey auld toon" to had sustained on the day before, with no water on the ground just a very soft pitch the game could go ahead against our local rivals Gala and our city rivals from Heriots.
Sickness and injury still plauge the S2 Albion so with just 15 players and a welcome back to Bryan BRIZO Hall after his illness they set about the task of playing Gala. The rugby the boys played in this game was the best we had seen all season. With Hawick first on the score sheet after a great run from Ryan Elliot on 10 minutes with the conversion pushed over by Dalton Repath but the lead was short lived and after some poor tackling Gala went in on 12 minutes and then crossed the Hawick line on 15 minutes for their second converted try. Then up stepped the Albion try machine Ryan Elliot  on 17 minutes for his second converted try. Gala went ahead on 20 minutes. This try was not converted. Then up popped Elliot for his hatrick on 21 minutes with the conversion made by Redpath Hawick had a 1 point advantage , then Gala crossed the Hawick line for a coverted try and it looked like Hawick hearts may be broken on 24 minutes but the lead role in this nip and tuck game was left to Ryan Elliot as he scored his forth try on 25 minutes Dalton Redpath slotted over the conversion and then the Albion had to dip deep to keep their slender lead until the referee blew his whisle for the end of playing time FINAL SCORE- Hawick Albion S2 -16 GALA- 15
After a 15 minute well deserved break the Albion took to the field to face Heriots. This was a corker of a game with both side playing some first class Rugby. The Albion had the upper hand in the early exchanges and set up camp in the Heriots 22 only for the vistors to pounce on a loose ball and go the full lenth of the pitch to score a converted try under the posts. On 12 minutes Ryan Elliot made a great run down the touchline to go in under the posts. Dalton Redpath made the conversion look easy when he stroked it over. The next and final score in this game came 2 minutes from the final whistle when, yes that man again, Ryan Elliot took the ball just outside his own 22 then stepped inside and then stepped again to beat the full back to go in under the posts. FINAL SCORE - Hawick-7 Heriots-3
"NOTE FROM THE TOUCHLINE"
Some of the Albion players stood up to be counted today Deno- made some great tackles at stand off , Hizzy- made two try saving tackles ,Sean-ruled the lineouts and stole some great ball , Jordan was solid at fullback and all the other players not named put in a fantstic shift to put a smile on the mens face that should still be there next week. This was not a one man show but great team effort from 1 to 15 so now you showed it can be done lets give the same to Rose and Ayr next Sunday.

Dunfermline S2 v Hawick Albion S2 8/11/09

It was off to the kingdom of Fife on Sunday for Albion S2,not a good start to the trip with call offs due to illness and injury we set of with 14 players so we had to beg steal and borrow from S1.Thanks to the S1 coaches and the players Ali and Robbie. With weather conditions first class and a good warm up the players failed to take this on to the pitch and ended a poor first half having let in 4 try,s.
The second half was a huge improvement the Albion began to hit rucks the scrum had firmed up and the errors that the hosts had scored  2 of their 4 try,s from in the first half had disappeared, Jordan Nuttall had a good run at full back and made some telling breaks lost count of the number of tackles that Ben Wilson made out on the wing.Stuart Maxwell was the stand out forward and got his name on the score sheet .the first half ended 1 try each to give a final score of Dunfermilne-18 Hawick Albion-3.
"NOTE FROM THE TOUCHLINE"  The away win will come boys but not if you have a first half like this one you have to hit the rucks and that involves running to them and not walking and getting to the ruck when its to late.Cut out the lose play and passing and if you have a player available and on his feet "GIVE HIM THE BALL" I asked for something before kick off and i want it soon so lets have a big smile on his face on the way back from Portobello !!!!

Albion S-2 V Stirling S2 1/11/09

"November rain" we had bucket loads before and during this match. With only 13 players that bothered to turn up and 3 borrowed from S1 "thanks Chappy and Lex" it was a very poor day not just with the weather but also the the performance of the Hawick side Missed tackles , poor rucking, lack of support play just to name a few things that let us down , but we cant take anything away from Stirling the things we did not do they did them as a team they out scrumed us out rucked us supported the runners and their handling was first class in the weather conditions the game was played in.
Final score Albion S2-4 Stirling S2-46
"NOTE FROM THE TOUCHLINE" Not had one this year boys. All this things that we did not do in this game we do them well at training and in the warm up so lets stop and think how and where it all goes wrong.WE NEED TO TAKE THINGS FROM TRAINING AND USE THEM AT GAME TIME AND NOT LOOK AT TRAINING AS A CHORE.

Hawick Albion S1/2 combined teams 27/9/09 Berwick and Edinburgh BATS

The S1 and S2 Albion had two combined teams on the road on Sunday one team away to Berwick under the charge of David Lowrie and Alastair Chapman and came away with a very impressive win. Playing a young Berwick side Hawick showed up well and run in 10 tries 8 of them converted everyone playing their part in a good advert for attacking Rugby Final score Berwick-4 Hawick Albion S1/2-38.
The other combined team had the slightly longer trip to the place  "some say" is the birth place of Scottish Rugby at Raeburn place to face an S1/2 combined team from Edinburgh BATS under the charge of Craig Black,Mick Gillan,Dougie Anderson and Steven Mclean. The forwards had their best run this season and the fast running backs gave the hosts problems every time they had the ball, the game was 10 minutes old when Stuart Maxwell went over for his first of 3 tries after a move that had some great support play and a final pass that sent Maxwell over in the corner.
There is a rumour that Sir Alex Ferguson takes a walk in the public parks of Manchester to watch youth football to see if he can spot his next superstar. Well, Raeburn place is no different the larger than life Ian Barnes turned up at the pitch side and did ask the name of the boy who had scored 3 tries but he also enjoyed at bit of Hawick banter. Lewis Ferguson was next on the score sheet with great break from centre that split the BATS defence to go in under the posts . BATS did pull a try back on 20 minutes but Maxwell bagged his second on 23 minutes.
The second half was much of the same with Albion on top in most phases of the game Dean Gillan at stand off  had a good game and kept the hosts pinned back in their own half with the boot. Maxwell went over for his hatrick 10 minutes into the half, then a superb  kick to touch from a penalty from Gillan saw the Albion lineout just short of the BATS try line the code was called and Macauley Trotter went from the ruck to score his first try of the season. The hosts went over the Albion line 3 times but the ball was not grounded so therefore no score was given. With the game into the last few minutes Matthew Bell went in at the corner to make the final score BATS-4 Hawick Albion S1/2-20. For the neutral these two teams had been thrown together on Friday and had only had 45 minutes during the warm up at both venues but to see them play you would think they had played and trained together for 4-5 months, so its well done to both S/1 and S/2 players coaches and parents that took cars to make the trips possible and a special thanks to Billy Brunton (Hawick Legion) for the use of their minibus for the Edinburgh trip.

Albion S2 V Biggar 27 September 2009

The S2 Albion side made the trip to Biggar on Sunday and played some of the best Rugby seen from this young side away from home, but it just shows how cruel sport can be to have played so well but end up on the loosing side .The scrum was first class and took 2 balls against the head in the first half, the line out was good and the rucking that let the side down last week was a huge improvement.Ryan Elliot touched down 4 times for the Albion Dalton Redpath pushed over two of the conversions. the game was lost towards the end when the hosts scored twice with a couple of calls from the man with the whistle that did not favour the Hawick side
final score Biggar-22 Hawick Albion-14
Team- R.Scott, B.Wilson,W.Ballantyne, R.Elliot, D.Redpath, D.Gillan, B.Hall,J.Hyslop(capt), S.Maxwell, D.Mallin,S.Solley, F.Hunter, R.Jeffrey, M.Trotter, C.Breiter, G.Anderson, J.Reid and N.Crawford

Albion S2 V Boroughmuir S2

Boroughmuir made the trip to Wilton lodge park from Edinburgh on a sunny Sunday in a game that contained 15 tries the only sad side to this was the Albion S2 only scored 3 of them. The city boys where much bigger more aggressive and gave the Albion side no time on the ball. Don't think the S2 Albion will meet a side better than Muir this season so its heads up boys and lets face the season whoever and whatever it brings
final score-Hawick Albion S2-11 Boroughmuir-48
